Have a chance to go inside, observe the investigators, and perhaps have a personal encounter with the spirits of Poplar Hill Mansion. It was once the home of a medical doctor – Dr. John Huston who, with his wife, Sarah raised four daughters in the house. He also had a medical surgery where it is likely that several (or many) of his patients died.

People have seen apparitions of a Poplar Hill slave woman named Sarah. She was the nineteen-year-old caretaker of the Huston children who died in their nursery. A coal from the fire ignited her dress and she couldn’t extinguish it. She was burned to death. According to the Poplar Hill patrons, the wood floor in that room still shows the scorch marks from the fire. Child spirits are believed to also haunt that room. Little toys that are on display in the room are sometimes rearranged in the night, and a tiny rocking chair is sometimes turned to face the wall. There are also apparitions of a slave woman peering out the dining room window.

In addition to apparitions and mentions of encounters with spirits at Poplar Hill Mansion, paranormal investigators have gathered numerous electromagnetic voice prints with EVP meters – one being a very clear sound of a child saying, “Mom, I’m here.” And visitors to the mansion have remarked how they will hit cold spots in various places – particularly in the small dining room where Dr. Huston had his surgery… where he performed amputations and sometimes “lost” his patients to death.

Guests are encouraged to bring their handheld equipment to the investigation (no bulky or large equipment allowed). We will have a limited amount of “ghost meters” for guests that want to try them out, but they must be returned at the end of the investigation.
**WHAT TO EXPECT** Guests will gather in the lobby and be met by a guide who will disperse the group into several locations. A Chesapeake Ghosts guide/storyteller will give guests the information on how to try and identify paranormal activity with the device as well as a camera. You will also observe our paranormal team equipment use and practices for identifying spiritual activity in the area in the buildings. Groups of guests will rotate the various locations in a group. Guests will not be free to wander and investigate areas on their own. However, guests can use their own equipment during the group sessions.
NOTE: We do not guarantee any ghost sightings or activity. We are not in control of when and where spirits make themselves known. But we will demonstrate paranormal investigation techniques, and guests will experience the inside quarters of a known active property.

Please arrive at the tour 15 minutes before the start time to check in with the guide. You are welcome to bring your own equipment but equipment will be provided as well. Parking is available on the street. Please do not block any driveways as this is a residential area.
**WHAT TO BRING:** It’s not necessary to bring your own equipment as the investigators will have their own equipment. Bring your camera (phone camera is fine). There will be electromagnetic detectors available for guests to try.
**TIPS / GRATUITIES:** Cost of ticket does not include gratuity. Please give your guide a tip if you think she or he has done well and offered an informative and entertaining experience.
CANCELLATIONS AND REFUNDS: Full refund will be given if cancellation is made 48 hours prior to the posted start of the investigation. If cancellation is NOT made within 48 hours of the start, no refunds will be given. For reservations of 6 or more, we require 72 hours. However, all registrations are transferable, so feel free to allow a friend or family member to attend in your place. Just give them your order voucher.
