Join the Paranormal Investigation at Linchester Mill
Join our Chesapeake Ghosts team along with Delmarva Spirit Hunters for a paranormal investigation at Linchester Mill in Preston, MD. Linchester Mill in Preston, Maryland. The mill was built around 1840 and was operational until the 1970s. It sits on Hunting Creek – a creek believed to be the last stop on the Underground Railroad. Escaped slaves came up the Choptank River toward the free state of Delaware. As they traversed the Choptank shoreline by night they would come to various creeks that might be too deep to cross safely. So they would walk up the creek to a known “safe crossing” and then cross over and make their way back down to the Choptank staying in the woods and in safehouses by day. Eventually, they would come to Delaware – a free state.Book online now!
Underground Railroad History
After crossing Hunting Creek behind Linchester Mill, escaped slaves were just a few short miles from Delaware and there were several safe houses very close by.
But the tragedy is that the mill crossing worked in reverse. Slave catchers and kidnappers dragged their unfortunate prisoners down the same paths from freedom to slavery moving south along the creeks and the Choptank River. The creek behind Linchester Mill was often the first safe crossing on that horrible journey. The creek and the mill have a haunted past… and some believe a haunted present.
Paranormal Activity Present
Paranormal investigators have been secretly staking out the ground around this mill and for years getting readings that show energy and temperature shifts, whitish films in photographs and a low hum or singing sound on electronic voice recordings. And there are several who have seen apparitions inside the mill house and experienced a strange presence. Clearly, there is a strong energy in this place. Clairvoyants and psychic mediums – those with high levels of intuition and intuitive capability find this place teeming with energy.
