Princess Anne Ghost Walk

Our Most Disturbing Ghost Tour

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Princess Anne in Somerset County Maryland has some of the most unusual haunted sites – and while it’s a beautiful town decked with gorgeous historic homes, it is also home to our scariest ghost walk.

NOTE: Due to harsh content, this walk is not open to children.  There are strong themes (lynchings) and gruesome details in some of the stories. Must be at least 12 to attend and all guests under 18 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Teackle Mansion was built by Littleton Dennis Teackle in the early 1800s. It took him nearly 20 years to finish and he nearly lost it twice.  His beloved wife, Elizabeth designed the gardens and ran the house.  She loved the place … and she is still there.  The mansion was modeled after a Scottish Manor House, and  there is nothing quite like it open to the public on the Eastern Shore.

The Grey Eagle, a stone structure built to function as the jail and police department is also rare …. and has some rare ghosts.  St. Andrews Graveyard is laid out in the old English style with beautiful headstones, and the Washington Hotel was built as a tavern – and George Washington really did sleep there.

PLEASE NOTE: WE DO NOT GO INSIDE THE PROPERTIES.  This is a ghost walk where stories of hauntings and unexplained events are shared while standing outside the property.

Join the Princess Anne Ghost Walk and stand in the presence of Elizabeth Upshur Teackle’s beloved home… learn how much she loved it.  Hear the stories of Dr. Ruby, Judge Standford, Judge Mac Duer and prisoners held inside the Grey Eagle.

Somerset County has more historic properties per capita than any other county in Maryland, and you will feel like you’re stepping back in time when you walk the streets of Princess Anne.

SITES ON THE PRINCESS ANNE GHOST WALK include the old Princess Anne jail, the Teackle Mansion, the Washington Hotel, the Princess Anne Firehouse, Independence Hall, the Francis Barnes House, the Somerset County Courthouse and several historic homes along the main streets.  Hear tales of the dead on a walk through St. Andrew’s graveyard and lay your hands on a “healing tree.”

  1. Took the ghost walk in princess anna Saturday night 5/2/2015 . Ive been to ghostbwalks throughout the country, from san antonio to boston and numerous places in between. I love them for their historical aspect and your guide didi not disappoint . She got my attention from the get go and didnt let go for over two hours, It was something I never experienced before in all my other ghost walks, Your guide had an uncanny aability to get locals to share there experiences with us. One woman told of her 30yrs living with these occurrences. It took a story and made it all so real. While she was talking about not being able to shower in that one bathroom , a bunch of bats come flying over the house. The scary level went up to a 9 . The rest of the walk was more of the same ,your guide wove the stories from one location to the next keeping us hanging on every word and watching all the shadows. I was not expecting much here on the shore but men was I wrong cant wait to come back and check out some of the other towns on the Eastern shore, If your other guides are anything like ours was I know i will not be disappointed. Thank you for opening my eyes to the richness of history here on the eastern shore. (And scaring the beejesus out of me in the process)

    1. Thank you, Hollis. We are very proud of Maria (your guide) and she frequently gets positive feedback from her guests. Sounds like you had the spirits with you that night….not so surprising under the light of the full moon. Thanks for joining us.

  2. Are any of the ghostwalks wheelchair accessible for the handicapped? If so, must the handicapped person person have an assistant with them?

    1. Sherrill, all of our ghostwalks are accessible for wheelchairs with the exception of going inside graveyards – there’s on on every tour. But the walks are all in excess of 1.5 miles, so a person trying to propell themselves might get very tired quickly. We’ve had wheelchairs on the tours and they’ve worked fine – either motorized or having help pushing. Le t us know if you have any more questions.

  3. I know this place is haunted heard different stories from older folks about the slaves back in the day and the underground railroad that is underneath of there I also heard stories of people actually staying there a night and a couple was staying in one of the rooms and saw a slave spirit sitting in a rocking chair staring at them rocking in the rocking chair also one night I drove passed there and I looked up in the window and saw a woman standing in the window wearing a white dress one of them dresses like the women wore back in the day she looked like she was like a rich lady not a slave. also one of my friends also had saw a woman outside of this mansion when my friend had rode pass she saw a woman dressed in a slave looking outfit looking at her car as it passed by and my friend said as she was passing the woman was looking at her waving at her as she passed by. and one more I know the big tree that is in front of the court house a slave was hung there and they say at night sometimes u see him hanging by that tree!!!!!!

  4. I worked in the teakle mansion and saw the tail end of the dress of the lady in white go by at the top of the stairs after hearing something move, as well as felt her like she was watching me work. also was painting upstairs alone when the front door open and closed quite hard thinking someone came in that wasn’t suppose too I went all through there trying to find them only to find no one so I shrugged it off went back to work when the door did it again and I looked out the window and saw no one but herd something walk down the front wooden steps like it had hard sole shoes on.well needless to say I went outside and waited till my boss came back
